02What we collect
Information you give us
When you submit an enquiry, request the printed lookbook, book an appointment at the atelier, or contact us by telephone or email, we may collect:
- your name and the name of your business, where relevant;
- your email address and telephone number;
- a postal address, where you have asked us to send something;
- the content of your enquiry, including any measurements, fitting notes or garment preferences you choose to share;
- records of our correspondence with you.
Information collected automatically
Our web host records standard technical information when a page is served, including your IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring page and the time of the request. These server logs are used for security and to keep the site working correctly.
Information we do not collect
We do not operate an online checkout on this website and we do not collect or store payment card details here. We do not buy personal data from third parties, we do not operate social media profiles, and we do not carry third-party advertising or tracking pixels.
03How we use it
- to answer your enquiry and to correspond with you about it;
- to arrange and prepare for private appointments at the atelier;
- to prepare quotations, made-to-measure records, alterations and repairs;
- to send you the printed lookbook or other material you have specifically requested;
- to keep proper business, tax and accounting records;
- to protect the website against misuse, fraud and abuse;
- to send occasional news about collections and appointments, where you have asked us to.
We do not use your personal data to make automated decisions about you, and we do not carry out profiling.
04Lawful bases for processing
We rely on the following lawful bases under Article 6 of the UK GDPR:
- Legitimate interests — to respond to enquiries, to maintain our client and appointment records, and to keep our website secure. We have considered your rights and freedoms and believe this processing is what you would reasonably expect of us.
- Performance of a contract — where you commission a garment, an alteration or a repair, we process your data in order to carry that work out.
- Consent — for optional marketing communications and for any non-essential cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out beforehand.
- Legal obligation — to meet our obligations under tax, accounting and consumer law.
Where you share fitting notes or measurements, we treat these as ordinary personal data. We do not ask for, and would rather you did not send, information about your health or any other special category data.
05Cookies and similar technologies
This website is deliberately light. It does not set advertising cookies, analytics cookies, or third-party tracking cookies, and there is therefore no consent banner to dismiss.
Your browser may store small amounts of data locally to remember display preferences, and our host may set a strictly necessary cookie to keep the site secure and available. Fonts are served by Google Fonts and video and photography are served by their respective content delivery networks; when those files load, the provider will receive your IP address and browser information as part of the ordinary request. Their handling of that information is governed by their own privacy notices.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Doing so will not prevent you from using this site.
06Who we share it with
We do not sell, rent or trade personal data. We share it only where it is necessary, and only with organisations that process it on our instructions:
- our web hosting and email providers;
- our accountants, and our professional or legal advisers where required;
- couriers and postal services, where we are sending something to you;
- specialist workshops carrying out an alteration or repair on our behalf;
- public authorities, where we are required by law to disclose information.
Each processor is bound by a written agreement requiring appropriate security and prohibiting any use of your data for its own purposes.
07International transfers
We are based in the United Kingdom and hold data here wherever we can. Some of our providers operate servers in the European Economic Area or the United States. Where personal data leaves the UK, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or on the International Data Transfer Agreement, or the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, together with any additional safeguards the transfer requires.
08How long we keep it
- General enquiries — up to 24 months from our last contact with you.
- Client and commission records — 6 years from the completion of the work, so that we can honour our lifetime repair service and meet our legal obligations.
- Accounting records — 6 years from the end of the relevant financial year, as required by HMRC.
- Marketing consents — until you withdraw consent, and for 12 months afterwards as a record that you did so.
- Server logs — normally no more than 30 days.
When a retention period ends, data is deleted or irreversibly anonymised.
09Security
The website is served over HTTPS. Access to enquiry records is limited to the small number of people in the atelier who need it, protected by individual accounts and multi-factor authentication. Devices are encrypted, and paper records — fitting notes, order books — are held in a locked room at Little Horton Lane.
No system is perfect. If a breach ever occurs that is likely to result in a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will report it to the Information Commissioner's Office within 72 hours and tell you directly where the risk is high.
10Your rights
Under UK data protection law you have the right to:
- be told how your data is used, as this policy sets out;
- request a copy of the personal data we hold about you;
- have inaccurate or incomplete data corrected;
- ask us to erase your data where there is no continuing reason for us to hold it;
- ask us to restrict our processing while a concern is resolved;
- receive certain data in a portable, machine-readable format;
- object to processing carried out on the basis of our legitimate interests;
- withdraw consent at any time, where consent is the basis we rely on;
- opt out of marketing entirely, at any time, by replying to any message or writing to us.
Write to hello@anclothing.co.uk to exercise any of these rights. We will respond within one month, and there is no charge. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we release any information.
11Children
This website and our services are intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us with their details, please contact us and we will delete them.
12Changes to this policy
We review this policy at least once a year, and whenever our practices change. The version number and date at the top of this page always reflect the current edition. Where a change materially affects how we handle your data, we will tell you directly if we hold a means of contacting you.
13Contact and complaints
Please raise anything with us first — most questions are settled quickly.
